‘Joy’ Contemporary Textile Art Work

This large textile art work is on display as part of the Recreate exhibition at Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, along with some of my textile jewellery and lampshades. All made using ucycled materials and beads.

This crazy colourful wall hanging took several months to produce, using freeform knitting, crochet, weaving and embroidery. With recycled beads and buttons added to the surface.

I didn’t start with a plan but surrounded myself with yarn and materials and just started knitting adding colour and texture like a painting.

The Recreate exhibition is well worth visiting, there are some gorgeous works of art created with recycled materials including the amazing parrots above.

Making Fabric Beads

This is a great way to use up little scraps of fabric. I have cut these rectangles from a Sanderson Sample book, I bought at a local interior shop. It saves them from going into landfil.

To make these I spread glue on the on the fabric and roll. As it is thick furnishing fabric this is all it needs. They are then left to dry and threaded with matching coloured beads taken from broken and preloved jewellery to make new necklaces. I love the colours and textures they create.
